Meet The Founder & Dentist Behind Orthoclean
"Most people brush twice a day with ease, yet many patients I encounter struggle to floss twice a week. The Orthoclean Sonic Flosser is here to change that, making regular flossing a part of your routine and as easy as brushing your teeth for better oral health (and fewer fillings!)."
- Dr Marcus L. (BDS Otago)
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the floss made of?
What is the floss made of?
A: Made from strong, woven polypropylene, our floss delivers reliable performance to create a floss that’s both durable and free from unnecessary extras. No wax, no coatings, and absolutely no PFAs, PTFEs, or Teflon, just a safe, toxin-free way to care for your smile.
What’s the best technique for using the flosser?
What’s the best technique for using the flosser?
A: Just like learning to ride a bike, there will be an initial learning curve in using the Sonic Flosser. Everyone's mouth is unique, with some individuals having tighter teeth than others, so patience is required to find the technique that works best for you. With daily use, you'll learn more about your own mouth and the spaces between particular teeth. We typically see individuals become flossing experts in around 2-4 weeks. Practice makes perfect!
These are the two main techniques for using the Orthoclean Sonic Flosser.
Roll-in, roll-out: To allow the floss to slide between the teeth, roll the floss head from outward to inward back and forth, allowing the vibrations to guide the floss in. Roll the head outwards (not upwards) to remove the floss.
Bite pad: gently bite on the soft pad/tongue cleanser with the opposing teeth to guide it between the teeth. Roll the head outwards (not upwards) to remove the floss.
For tight spaces: As with regular floss, it is normal to have tight contacts/spaces between particular teeth that may break the floss. Aligning the floss between the teeth and biting on the bite pad in the 'Clean' mode (highest frequency mode) is better suited for tighter teeth if you struggle with the roll-in, roll-out method.
Pro-tip: You may very lightly coat the floss thread with coconut oil, which is naturally antimicrobial and slippery, to allow the floss to slide in more easily while providing some antimicrobial cleaning action; be sure to rinse afterwards!
How does it compare to water flossing?
How does it compare to water flossing?
A: Water flossing has been gaining popularity in recent years due to its ease of use, speed, and ability to reach areas that traditional floss may struggle with. However, its main drawback is that it doesn’t physically get between the teeth, often leaving more plaque behind compared to string floss or floss picks. Think of it like rinsing dishes under the tap instead of scrubbing them with a brush.
The Orthoclean Sonic Flosser bridges the gap between these methods, combining the best of both worlds to deliver a faster, easier, and more effective flossing solution for improved oral health.
How long does each floss head last?
How long does each floss head last?
A: We've engineered our floss thread to be exceptionally durable, lasting over a week with regular use, for the daily user. These are best replaced after a week of use for hygiene reasons. To get the most out of your floss head, be sure to rinse it under the tap to wash away dislodged plaque. Alternatively, place it in the Orthoclean Ultrasonic Cleaner for a single 5-minute cycle.
Individuals with tight teeth or dental restorations may face increased wear and tear of the floss thread due to increased friction/force, and may require more frequent replacements if needed (for example, every 3-5 days).
